Video Remixes

by on May 24, 2010

I haven’t made a music video edit in a minute. I made the mistake of uploading the U-N-I concert footage to my Vimeo account and I subsequently could not add another video until last Saturday. Expect more music video edits this week.

I know. A classic such as Biggie’s ‘Juicy’ should never be remixed nevertheless made into a mashup but I must say The XX’s ‘Intro’ blends very well with the song. So, give it a try and I am sure you will like it enough to give it at least a few spins. Maybe 10.. 20.. You get the point.

Purchase: The Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy

In 2007, J.J. Brown dropped his ‘Re-Release Therapy’ album that consisted of solely what was provided on Ludacris’ ‘Release Therapy Acapella’ LP and elements from the Jackson 5′s musical legacy with no additional instrumentation. I would like to point out that I believe this song is a step above the usual mashup because it samples elements of the Jaskson 5 rather than just blending the two songs together. I highly suggest checking out more of J.J. Brown productions as he makes great beats. He has done a lot work with one of my favorite artists Louis Logic. He even reproduced Louis Logic’s ‘Sin-A-Matic’ album over 80′s music, which is definitely worth checking out. The album is called ‘Sin-A-Matic: The 80′s Edition’ and can be found on the iTunes links.

I just heard of Macklemore this year.  He reps from Seattle and that is just what this song is about.  It may even make you want to move there. Sabzi is the DJ for the hip hop duo Blue Scholars.

Here’s a funny story about the remix from Sabzi himself:

Shortly after I met Macklemore at Evergreen State College sometime in 2003, he sent me about 67 messages on MySpace (a new thing back then) asking for beats for the debut album he was working on. Like the buster I was in 2003, I pretty much ignored most of his messages. Ok, all of his messages.

The 20 or so of you that were paying attention to the music us SEA rap doods were making back then might have picked up on this lack of communication between Ben and I when he shouted out how difficult it was to get a hold of me in the lyrics to his infamous “MySpace Song.” Yea, I know in the song he said “Blue Scholars” but I know he was talking about me.

Maybe it was because I didn’t want to work with the guy. Maybe it was because I was afraid that the MC I was already working with would get jealous and take a baseball bat to my car while I was in the barbershop getting my hair cut. Maybe it was because I didn’t want him, or anybody for that matter, to discover that I had only made 14 beats and I’d put them all out already and there was nothing left for me to give. Or maybe, just maybe, it was my Seattle-bred, passive-aggressive way of telling Macklemore “Not now, but one day…”

Well Macklemore, that day has come. You are becoming far too popular for me to ignore and it’s better that I try and associate myself with your inevitable success as an artist before the opportunity escapes me. I have remixed “The Town” and used my Rollei to take a picture of one our favorite burger spots to function as the artwork for its internet release.

Certainly, I chose this photo because that place is a Town staple and we love those burgers. More importantly, however, it’s the name of the restaurant (without the “s”) that reminds me of my behavior towards you in 2003.

I vow to make a living amends to you from here on, Macklemore. Enshallah I will have the opportunity to cook many more beats for you to rock over. Love ya buddy. – Sabzi

Here is another Drake remix.  There are many remixes out there for the song ‘Forever’ but I believe this is the best one out there.  Check it out and don’t forget to comment what you think of the song/video.

This is a cool mash-up made by the group The White Panda.  The Junkie XL song ‘Stratosphere’ goes very well with Obie Trice’s ‘Got Some Teeth.’  Enjoy.

While I should have been studying this afternoon, I instead decided to make a music video for one of the most polarizing party songs in Boulder.  It turned out pretty well even though it was impossible to find a decent quality music video for Biggie’s ‘Party and Bullshit.’

Purchase: Miley Cyrus - Party in the USA
Purchase: The Notorious B.I.G.'s music
