Joe Budden is arguably one of my favorite rappers (shove it haters) because of his lyricism and ability to connect with his listeners on an emotional level. There are not many rappers like him in my opinion. At one point, he was making club tracks such as “Pump It Up” and “Fire” when he was signed to Def Jam. Label issues forced him to begin his Mood Muzik mixtape series, which in my opinion has been a more authentic representation of Budden’s talent. This latest Mood Muzik release is the fourth edition to the series and is on par with the previous mixtapes. I would say this is better than most albums that are released today.. and it’s free. You do have the option to purchase a hard copy yourself (not to mention signed by Joe Budden himself) here if you would like. In related news, Joe budden is once again going to in the mainstream spotlight after news that his group Slaughterhouse will be signing to Shady Records. Below are my favorites from Joe Budden’s Mood Muzik 4.

This last track that I will feature was given the visual treatment in the form of a trailer for the mixtape. There were three trailers in total and they can all be viewed on Joe Budden’s YouTube channel. Apparently, Just Blaze wasn’t too happy that Joe Budden used his beat for the track. You can read all about it here.

Pretty Lights just released their third and final installment of the EP series to be released this year titled Glowing in the Darkest Night. It is eight tracks of Pretty Lights signature sound, so you know it is going to be good. I would say this EP is slightly slower paced then their previous works. Perfect to put on while doing homework or just chilling with friends. I wouldn’t say this is much a party record. I picked out my favorite four tracks from the EP but of course the whole thing is just as great. Download it and be sure to share it with your friends.

In related news, Pretty Lights kicks off their 2010 Fall/Winter tour next Wednesday in Tulsa, OK. A number of shows on this tour have sold out, so I recommend getting a ticket in the city nearest you before they’re gone. Check out the tour dates and locations here. You can hear a sample of what’s to expect through their PLM 2010 Fall Tour Opening Act Compilation, which features artists such as Blockhead, Gramatik, Michal Menert, Kraddy, Thunderball, Eliot Lipp, VibeSquaD, MiMOSA, Chali 2na, and Free The Robots. Download it below.

I’m pretty sure I don’t have to tell you all how long I’ve been waiting for this one. I have been tee-heeing and squirming like a 5 year old for a couple months in anticipation. Well I got it, did two backflips, and sat down to give it a listen…

First off, between the 7 tracks, don’t expect any continuity other than bassy deliciousness. What I’m saying is that there are a great variety of styles crammed into this EP. There are hard hitting, straight-up bangers like “Encore” and “Wildstyle Method”. But there are also some tracks that are influenced by rap and hip-hip, such as the remix of AmpLive’s “Hot Right Now” and “The 808 Track”. However, the chill wobbly tracks are my favorite. The two that I’m referring to are “Underwater” and “Falling”. As well, let’s not forget about “Fun With Synthesizers”, which is a whole ‘nother game in itself. Pretty cool track, with the term “track” being up for interpretation.

There are a great deal of featured artists on the album as well, including: 40 Love, Mighty High Coup, Paper Machete, and Tina Malia. My personal fav is Tina Malia. She breathes a crazy ethereal vibe into “Underwater” that is perfect.

Hmmm, my favorite drop you ask? Either 1:22 in “Underwater”, or “Encore” at :44. I’ll throw up my favs to stream, but you will have to head over to Bassnectar’s website to snag it (or stream the rest of the album). Don’t worry, its super cheap. Oh, and you can check out “Wildstyle Method”, the prerelease track, at our old post covering it.

Hey boy and girls. Finally got my hands on Flux Pavillion‘s new EP titled Lines in Wax. I must say, it’s pretty sick. I would say it’s possible my favorite stuff from him yet. Maybe you all remember Flux’s remix of “Gold Dust”. Oh, wait, I know you do, because I still hear it bumping at just about every party I f***in go to.

Anyways, this EP came out a few days ago and is sure to satisify all your grimy, tweeky, dubby needs. It has the typical flux dirt you would expect, with various nice vocals to match. I am really digging “Lines in Wax” itself. Rap and dubstep are are getting a little more cozy together these days, and I like it. Preview the tracks below, then go here to buy it.

Consider this a sort of semi-prequel to the Smokey Robotic album I posted in early July. Created by two fifths of the five man Smokey Robotic group, Seer and Illmind released this gem back in early June but it wasn’t until this week that I recently discovered it. Seer was born in London, grew up in LA and now resides in NYC, so has a wide range of experiences to draw from to influence his music. He also makes a very experimental form of hip hop fused with pop and electronic elements, something that attracted Illmind to work with him. Illmind produced every track on this album and had this to say about Seer:

“When I first heard Seer’s music, I knew I had to work with him. I’m primarily known for “hip-hop” records, so to meet an artist as experimental and different as Seer, I knew I had to get into the studio with him.” !llmind says. “This is a chance for me to show to the world that I can do fun, light-hearted electro and pop records, but still keep it grimy and coherent to my sound.”

This is a really dope and unique album and is sure to hold you over until Smokey Robotic releases some new material. Luckily, a new Smokey single and video should be coming very soon. Listen to my four favorite tracks from Why Wouldn’t I? and download the album below.

I haven’t listened to much Mickey Factz in the past, but I certainly will be in the future, because I am loving his style. I don’t listen to as much rap as I once did, all the main stream stuff has started to sound the same.

That where Mickey Factz comes in. There are a wide variety of styles that he drops his flow on over the course of this mixtape. There are some instrumental tracks like “Melodic Nightmares” (possibly my fav), and some great electronic themed tracks like “We Young,” as well as more conventional remixes like the “Light Up” remix. One thing is for sure, I guarentee you that you can find at least one track on this mixtape that will suit your style. I definitely found a lot more than one.

XXL is presenting this bad boy so you’ll have to head over yonder to grab it, I’ll include a link at the end of this post. Mickey Factz is a real up and comer these days. You’ll here the likes of B.o.B, Big K.R.I.T., Fat Joe, Bun B, and Chester French on this one. DJ Enuff hosts the tape, and oh boy will you hear him talk a lot; the one downside to this mixtape. Factz’ debut album The Achievement will drop early next year.

Here’s my fav tracks:

Pance Party & Valerna teamed up together to produce this short EP titled The Robobot. Although it is hard to really call this an EP when it is only two tracks, I will let it slide because of how epic they are. “Overture: The Last Robobot” is one of the sickest electronic song I have heard all year. “Schaerzo” is pretty cool as well, although I don’t like it as much as “Overture: The Last Robobot”. If you want to learn more about Pance Party or Valerna visit their MySpaces here and here, respectively.

Pance Party also released this dope remix of The Dance Party’s “Sash Don’t Sleep” a couple weeks ago, which I decided to add to this post as a bonus. This is definitely a jam you should be playing at your next house party.

Robotic Pirate Monkey is composed of three fellow Boulderites Matt Berryhill, Matt Flesher and Andrew Hathaway. You may remember me posting their remix of Jordan Corey’s “Breaking All The Rules” or their remixes of Modest Mouse and Trouble Andrew. If you like those, I have some good news for you. They just recently released their debut EP for FREE. It includes four brand new originals and six remixes that you may or may not have heard before. The whole album is sick but the four below are my favorites excluding the songs that have been previously posted. Enjoy and if you dig the album, spread the word about Robotic Pirate Monkey by liking them on Facebook and suggesting them to your friends!

Sam Adams picks up after his debut Boston’s Boy with his second mixtape titled Party Records. This one pretty much all party oriented (hence the titled) with bangers throughout, so don’t expect to find any songs like “Kimber (RIP)” on this mixtape. Some say Sam Adams is just the cockier and frattier version of Asher Roth, that may be so but I don’t care. He is doing his own thing and he is bringing hip hop and electronic music closer together, which I give him props for. This mixtape should be big for him. Just check out my four favorite tracks off of it. The first two he goes over Rusko’s “Hold On” and Deadmua5′s “Some Chords”. The last two he does his own version of one of the most popular songs of the year, “I Need A Dollar”, and does his own rendition of The Beatles “Eleanor Rigby”. There are plenty more dope tracks on the mixtape, so download it now!

Well folks, it’s finally arrived, so pull on your mascot head and do a f***in backflip because it’s dope. I must say, this mixtape proves that Hoodie and RJF have more than a few leaks up their sleeves.

When “You are not a Robot” surfaced way back when and blew up on Hype Machine, I knew that the future of Hoodie was a bright one. When “Words of Wisdom” came out shortly thereafter, I was floored. The synergy between Hoodie’s rhymes and the sampling of Two Door Cinema Club’s “Undercover Martyn” were phenom. Hoodie really elevates the tracks he samples and takes them into all new territory. I know it was posted a little late, but “Swimming with Sharks”, the last leak before the album drop, was great as well.

The new material on the mixtape does not disappoint. My favorites are “Look at What We Started”, “Tighten Up”, and “Joy and Misery”. Staying in line with the Pep Rally theme, the mixtape is mostly upbeat and fast paced, which I love. There are various samples from the likes of Alex Winston, VV Brown, The Black Keys, Ingrid Michaelson, Beach House, Death Cab for Cutie, Two Door Cinema Club, Flight Facilities, Florence and The Machine, and Yeasayer. Each sample is reworked in a great way by RJF and compliments Hoodie’s lyrical style .

Head over to the mixtape’s website to grab the whole thing for FREE! I’ll throw up my fav new tracks below to stream, but be sure to check out the leaks above, which are also included on the mixtape.
