I’m Next recently sat down with three fourths of Smokey Robotic to get a glimpse of who Smokey Robotic is. If you are unfamiliar with the group, this is a good interview to learn more about them. Also, if you are live in the New York City area, don’t miss their first show at the Matchless Bar in Brooklyn. You can find more information about the concert via the Facebook event for it here.
Well, this is interesting.. Although the Warner Music Group CEO Lyon Cohen’s is critical of “the excesses of the industry,” which include “artificial barriers of distribution” and $19 dollars CDs, he is still adamant about the industry’s recent push towards pursuing 360 deals. When Forbes’ Zack O’Malley Greenburg asks him what he has to say to critics of the 360 deal, his response is “I don’t listen to critics.” Okay now..
There are still artificial barriers of distribution. Radio, TV, and magazines (otherwise known as “the old media”) are all still there but the internet has made them less important. Either way, it is extremely tough without some gimmick to go viral and get over a million views without a major label backing you. The 360 deal makes sense now that people aren’t buying records like they used to but be careful what you sign artists.. You don’t want to sign away your livelihood.

The goofy guys over at Colorado’s The Adventurous 500 recently had the chance to sit down with Zion I, The Grouch and Amp Live backstage at Boulder’s Fox Theater. In the video, Zion I, The Grouch and Amp Live speak about their current tour, what they do for non-profits, on why they include social issues in their lyrics, the inspiration for Zion I’s “Coastin” (watch the music video for this classic song here), and their advice to aspiring musicians.

Two more videos from Illmind’s “Going Behind The Curtain” video series promoting his recent instrumental album, Behind The Curtain, is now available on iTunes. This first video features Illmind speaking on the concept, artwork, theme, creation process of his instrumental project Behind The Curtain.
Watch: Illmind – Going Behind The Curtain Pt. 2
In part three of the video series, Illmind breaks down his track “Champions” instrument by instrument while in the studio. You heard this instrumental in my previous post on Emilio Rojas’ music video for his single of the same name. It is always very interesting to see how songs are created from the ground up, so take a gander at this video.

Illmind’s latest instrumental album, Behind The Curtain, available now on iTunes.
I have always been impressed with Kenton Dunson’s music ever since I heard his first album last summer. His approach to creating music is very different from most artists I come across. This is partly to his ability to create every aspect of his songs but there is also something else to it, possibly his approach in creating his songs. In this video, Kenton Dunson describes his approach to music and how his Creative Destruction album was created. The interview and footage was filmed during a December 2010 show in Baltimore, MD. If you have not downloaded Kenton Dunson’s Creative Destruction, I highly recommend heading to kentondunson.com/ to download it for free.
If you have not heard of Frequent-C, it is only a matter of time until you do. He has taken his broad musical background to form a new subgenre that he calls “Jazzstep”. As you may have guessed, his music is heavily influenced by jazz forming a type a sound that is chill and relaxing to listen to. Hip hop and dub also influence his sound making it fit for the club as well. It is a really dope sound he has and it is no surprise that it has stirred up interest from the likes of Sony, Interscope, and Def Jam. To get a picture of what I am talking about check out his remix of Wiz Khalifa’s “Mezmorized”. Once you hear it, you will probably begin to do what Wiz Khalifa does best (other than rap).
As a bonus, check out his sick remix of Dr. Dre’s “Forgot About Dre”. It’s ridiculous. I would post a download for it but his Soundcloud hit the 100 download limit. Once I get a hold of it, I will post it.
If you want to know more about Frequent-C, my friend Ryan Park of The Adventurous 500 recently had the chance to sit down and interview Frequent-C after his show at the Fox Theatre. Watch it below.
Be on the lookout for my feature on Frequent-C & The Candyman’s collaborative group Slim Thugz in the very near future.
RemixTheVideo recently had the chance to catch up with Seer & Father Dude, one half of the group Smokey Robotic. In the interview, they tell Smokey Robotic’s story, how Smokey brought them together, and the influences behind their music. They also discuss and premiere their latest song “SuperVicious”, which you can grab below. As well, they talk about their plans for the future and how they are going to introduce Smokey Robotic to the world. I hope you enjoy the interview and their is much more footage to come. Find out more about Smokey Robotic on their website.

“SuperVicious”, as Seer stated in the interview, is Smokey Robotic’s most braggadocious song and one my favorites thus far by the group. The track was produced by both Illmind and Konrad and written and performed by Seer and Father Dude. They describe “SuperVicious” as “the Smokey roll call, a triumphant space symphony for all the superfuturistic funk fiends.” In my opinion, tracks like this are what I love about Smokey Robotic. They have combined so many genres to make something that is new and unique. It doesn’t hurt that all four of them are highly skilled in each of their crafts. If this doesn’t get you hooked on Smokey Robotic, I recommend getting your ears checked but that will probably be a waste since their next song will get you hooked anyway. Want more Smokey? Download all of Smokey Robotic’s music on their bandcamp. New music video, music and a mixtape presented by RemixTheVideo coming soon.
RemixTheVideo & Tha Carter Cartel caught up with Yelawolf backstage after his performance at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO on October 8th, 2010. He talks about his performances in Colorado, hints at why Trunk Muzik: 0-60 was delayed, and explains his future as an artist with Interscope. As well, he discusses whether we can expect more rock influences to surface in his songs, and his thoughts on touring with Wiz Khalifa.
We have featured the music of Kenton Dunson twice now on RemixTheVideo. We first introduced you to him with an album review of his debut solo album The Kenton Dunson Progressions and more recently with his new track “The Verge”. I would like to more formally introduce you to Kenton Dunson through this interview he just released. In the interview, he explains his journey as a music artist, how the world around him influences his music, his thoughts on the current music industry, and states what his favorite beer is. Check it out and be sure to head over to KentonDunson.com for more information about Kenton and to stream his entire album.
