If you didn’t catch my two previous posts that included Samuel, then I highly recommend checking those posts out. The first post was his amazing cover of Drake’s “Find Your Love,” which you can find here and the second post was a remix by Hi-Deaf of the title track off his debut EP of the same name, which can be found here. He is on his way up in the music world as it is evident by Kanye West posting Samuel’s Drake cover on his blog and his current record deal with Startime/Columbia Records. I have collected all the music I could find on the web and have put it all in one post (all that is missing is the two tracks I have already posted and two tracks from the EP). Read a short bio about him from his MySpace and listen to and download his awesome music!
Born in New York, Samuel has been surrounded by music his entire life. His mother, whom he credits as his biggest influence, was a singer and performer in her own right. It wasn’t long before he followed in her footsteps, forming a string of bands throughout high school. Playing shows and doing home recordings, Samuel attracted some indie label attention but after being introduced to Ben “DJ BRoc” Ruttner, part of the production duo the Knocks, he decided to break off to pursue a solo career.
After a year and a half of writing, recording and performing, Samuel amassed a repertoire of catchy electro-pop bangers and, in the fall of 2008, his soulful voice, inspired lyrics, and dulcet hooks caught the ears of executives at Columbia Records who wasted no time in signing him to a record deal. With a record in the works for January 2010, the hype surrounding this up and coming talent has attracted major names from the hip-hop and pop world, all eager to work with him.

This track is his first single off his debut EP, I Heart NY. The EP is short but good nonetheless. Be sure to buy it! It is more of a teaser for what’s to come. Be on the look out for his debut album, Trains To Wanderland, which is set to drop this year.

“I remember when they (The Knocks) were first creating Blackout at the studio and I jokingly said, “I WANNA REMIX DAT.” and ‘remix dat’ I did. I switched up the beat a bit and messed around with some lo-fi instruments and TONS of reverb and delay. I wanted to showoff how the song is still %150 badass and also make it something that is altogether me. I think I accomplished it by selfishly adding a verse.” – Samuel

We are winding down in this spotlight. I got one more song for you all with five remixes of it. The song is pretty awesome, so it is pretty tough for a remix to top it but the remixes are good nonetheless. I have ordered them from my favorite to lease favorite. Check out the original below.
