After a series of compounding events including (but not limited to) two nights of birthday ridiculousness, the end of an internship, the beginning of a new internship, and getting a new roomate, I am back. Cheers to @realjessjohnson for holding down the fort. Oh, and did I mention that one of those nights included attending Laidback Luke’s show in Denver? Yes, purely epic. During my absence, I had the time to download this lovely little mixtape, which I have been bumping at an appropriately loud level since it tickled my iPod.

Peanut Butter and Swelly, Chiddy Bang‘s third mixtape, is purty cool. For me, the mixtape didn’t live up to the glory of The Swelly Express, which rocked my musical taste so hard that it changed direction. But truly, I didn’t turn on the tape expecting The Swelly Express. Xaphoon Jones, for me, has lost some of his splendor. His production gets a little repetitive at times, whereas with previous mixtapes, it still seemed fresh. That being said, the mixtape really shined during the tracks in which Jones broke his mold.

As usual, I have nothing but positive things to say about Chiddy, who in my opinion has a magnificent flow which lives up to its reputation quite well on the tape. I mean, the guy set the world record for the longest freestyle (around nine hours), which takes some skill. As a matter of fact, the track the group released as a single to celebrate the record breaking occasion -appropriately titled “Guinness Flow”- may very well be my favorite track from the mixtape.

Past that, I would say that the “I Can’t Stop” freestyle, which samples Flux Pavillion’s epic bass-slapping track of the same name, was my favorite.

Equally epic, Chiddy Bang’s take on The Knocks’ “Dancing With The DJ” is sure to be a popular feel-good synthy seventies party track for a while to come.

I definitely recommend checking out the rest of the mixtape. “Cameras” receives an honorable mention, mostly because I am a big Matt and Kim fan. Stream the whole mixtape below, and then download it at the bottom of the page for free. Check out the official tracklist after the jump.

Not quite what I would expect from a song titled “Rolling Stone” but continues The Weeknd’s seemingly minimalist R&B style. For those of you who are fans (who is not at the moment?), you will love this. The singer also stated on Twitter that there will be two more mixtapes on the way this year. Until then, we have these new (and old) songs to hold us over.

Download: The Weeknd – Rolling Stone

These six unreleased songs from The Weeknd recently found their way to the Internet about a week ago. One of them was apparently meant for Drake and could have easily been featured on Thank Me Later. It is only a matter of time before we hear the two on a song together. Rumor has it that they have been in the studio together recently.

B.o.B lends his presence to OneRepublic’s single “Good Life,” which, if I don’t say so myself, is incredibly catchy. Although, I highly doubt it will reach the success of their song “Apologize” (that includes the Timbaland and non-Timbaland versions). I have probably heard that song a million times and I am still not sick of it.

Combining Blur’s “Song 2″ with LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” is definitely one way to get everyone party rocking with a bit more rock music. On a side note, I always thought Blur’s “Song 2″ was called the “Woohoo Song” or at least it should have been. Woooohooooo!

Another post, another late pass you will have to give me. This song was just too good not to post. The Miami phenomenon, Cris Cab, provides us with his take on Kanye West’s single “All of the Lights.” Cris gives Kanye’s hit single a nice reggae spin that by the end of the video will leave you wishing you lived in Miami. This is probably the best “All of the Lights” cover I’ve heard by a long shot.

This is for the Gaga heads out there or the “Little Monsters” as she calls them. Robin Skouteris took the time to piece together Gaga’s top hits into a “Judas” MeGaGamix. That is pretty cool in itself but the video is what really makes this worthwhile. It features various clips from her music videos, concert performances, and even clips from her many fans performing her songs. The fan videos add a very special element to the whole thing and shows just how popular Gaga is as an artist.

That does it. I am signing up for piano lessons first thing in the morning. If I can learn to play as well as Basto here, I can make colorful foam balls drop from the sky and girls dance all over me and my piano. Sounds fantastic.

A song as old as this is usually reserved for our Throwback Thursday’s post but I am making an exception with this one. Strange Famous Records (Sage’s record label) recently uploaded “Crack Pipes” to their Soundcloud. This prompted me to listen to it for the first time in maybe, let’s say, five years. I completely forgot how amazing the song was and reminds me that I should give Sage Francis’ classic Personal Journals another listen in the near future. I guess I will have to dust off my CD collection. Fun fact: The intro music of the song is a recording of Sage from when he was a kid.

In celebration of reaching over 500,000 plays on Soundcloud, Minnesota decided to let loose this little purple banger that is sure to help him reach his next 500,000 thousand. Featuring an iconic vocal sample from Rick Ross’ hit single “Hustlin,” this is one of those songs that you blast out of your car as your driving, preferably in a convertible with the roof down. The chorus from Rick Ross rapping “my roof back, my money right, I’m on the pedal, show you what I’m running like” placed between heavy bass will leave you feeling like a true boss.

Justice’s visual for their single “Civilization” flips a canyon upside down in a mind-blowing piece of animated cinematography that has to be seen to be believed. The civilization depicted in the video seems have been once populated with people but now remains home to a massive herd of buffaloes. As everything crumbles, from statues to the canyons themselves, the visual of a massive stampede of buffaloes is about as epic as it gets. No word as of yet when Justice’s follow-up to 2007′s will be released but it is sounding good already.

Perfectly timed, LAZRtag released this remix of Justice’s “Civilization” just as the video arrived. Albeit a bootleg, he reworks the song into an even bigger banger. Prepare yourselves.
