Sometimes, the best songs are not the newest songs. We all have at least one old song that we throw on constantly, even though it’s outdated. Often times, some of these songs are even songs that never went mainstream, but should have. Well, we have thousands of these songs, that’s why we do Throwback Thursdays. Once a week, we will bring you a glorious track that we just can’t shake off. Whether it be a year, five years, or ten years old, we’ll show you one dated song that will tickle your fancy.
Do you have a dope throwback? Send it our way.
This Throwback Thursday I’m going to share a couple of my favorite tracks with you.
“Celestica” was one of the stand out tracks on Crystal Castles‘ second self-titled album that came out about a year ago. Definitely a cool, starry, gorgeous track.

“Smile” is pretty much the ultimate cheer-up song of all time. It is most likely my favorite song of all time by Eyedea. I really can’t say much to describe how uplifting and powerful it is, so just listen. It’s a sad thing Eyedea passed away last October, may he rest in peace. The track is off of By The Throat from 2009, a collaboration album with DJ Abilities.

“E.T.”, the fourth single off of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream, now has a music video. A remarkable music video. I was honestly never into the original song itself, but this video is truly awesome. However, I was into the Benny Benassi and Tiesto remixes of track, which you can snag here.
Seriously, this is one of the most epic music videos I have seen in a while. It seems like Perry is trying step up to Lady Gaga’s stupendous level of absurdity; and she is doing it well. The video was directed by Floria Sigismondi.
Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for the most ridiculously obvious (and expensive) product placement you have ever seen.
I don’t know what to say about this video. Are they mocking us for the 80′s… two decades later? Not going to lie. The eighties were awesome.
Aparently UV is a group that consists of Yoo Seyoon and Myuji. They made their debut last year with the songs “Do You Want To Be Cool?” and “MOM”. They are known for funny music videos and unique lyrics (wouldn’t know since I don’t understand Korean) and this video is no exception.
Here’s a little background on Itaewon from a fellow Farker:
“I live in Itaewon and this video is all over Facebook right now. Love or hate it, it’s a pretty freakin’ hilarious video. J.Y. Park (the guy that dives through the hoop of arms a la Charlie Sheen) is the dude behind Wonder Girls, Rain and countless other Korean pop acts.
Korean society is so socially conservative, many Koreans come to Itaewon (a foreigner-centric part of Seoul) to let loose. It’s the only place in Korea that women can openly smoke cigarettes without being yelled at by other Koreans. Bars are open until the last person leaves and it’s also the location of hetro & multi-sexual red light districts. For many sub-cultures in Korea, it’s the only place they can go without being judged by the rest of Korean society as being freaks.
On the weekends, foreigners from all over the South Korean peninsula come to Itaewon to party. It’s the only place in Korea that has a Taco Bell, Subway, (Burger King & McDonald’s as well, but those are easier to find elsewhere) and hundreds of other ethnic food restaurants. If you want to eat something other than Korean food 3 times a day, 7 days a week, it’s pretty much the only place you can go… unless to you want to eat a bastardized version of pizza with corn and/or potatoes as toppings all the time…
Itaewon Freedom rules!” – tz247
Why can’t I help myself for liking this? No, I hate it. Nah, I love it. F**k it. Just watch.
This guy is incredible and the song is incredible as well. Literally, I have had this song on repeat for the past two days. It’s that sweet sixties soul music living alive and well in 2011. RTV needs more soul.. shit, the world needs more soul. So, why am I just learning about Charles Bradley now?
With the release of her album Femme Fatale, Britney Spears has been making the rounds in the media promoting it with performances on Good Morning America to the Jimmy Kimmel Show. It is clear from those performance that the ramp up for her next single “Till The World Ends” is well underway, with the music video for which already in production.
The song is a more standard pop hit than “Hold It Against Me” (who would have thought that Britney would have a dubstep breakdown?) and the pulsing “woah-oh-oh-oh” in it is sure to be getting stuck in everyone’s head after a few listens. I wonder what will come after “Till The World Ends”? I’m thinking it will be “Big Fat Bass” but we’ll see..
Until then, get ready for a flood of remixes to come of Britney’s “Till The World Ends”. The first of which to be released is from the good Doctor Rosen Rosen who flips the song on its head. You remember that “woah-oh-oh-oh” that sounds like a drunken chant at a Football game? Well, the lead up to that now sounds like a dark choir singing to the background of some epic battle.
The song to me has a dash of “Requiem for a Dream” yet still holds to the song’s pop roots. Overall, this remix is a winner and is a great rogue pop rendition of the song that only the Doctor could do.
True to my word a while back, I have kept on listening to the Fleet Foxes, and I am still quite in love. Today, a second track off of their upcoming sophomore album Helplessness Blues premiered on Radio 1.
“Battery Kinzie” is a little more upbeat than their previously released title track, “Helplessness Blues“. Honestly, I think I like the title track more. That’s not to say that the new one isn’t wonderful, because it is. Tune in below.
Helplessness Blues drops May 3rd.

The White Panda just sent over a couple new full-length mashes off of their recent slam-dunk mash album Pandamonium.
The first track -and my favorite- is a mash of Dr. Dre (and Snoop) x Mike Posner. Purty dope.

The second track mashes Jay-Z (and Lil’ Wayne) x The Jackson 5. Yes, wild.

Pac Div dropped a dope video today for their hit single “Anti-freeze” off of Mania!, maybe you remember our original post about the single… Well, the vid is pretty dope, it definitely goes well with/heightens the songs lyrics. Watch below.
In retrospect, I probably shouldn’t have even listened to this song before I posted it. I mean, two of my favorite artists on the same track? I don’t need to listen to it to know it’s going to be amazing; there’s no way to go wrong.
Furthermore, I could probably stop listening to Star Slinger remixes at all before I post them, because this guys kills it every single time. If you haven’t already heard the original “Freaks and Geeks,” you should probably go do it right now, right here. Donald made a smart call when he requested that Slinger whip this one up.
Check out Silver Medallion’s latest music video for their single “Live Forever”, the first off of their album with DJ Benzi titled No One Ever Really Dies. If you are unfamiliar with Silver Medallion, the group originally hailed from Phoenix, AZ, but permanently relocated to Brooklyn, NY after the tragic death of their emcee Carnegie (see our post dedicated to Carnegie here). DJ Benzi recently presented their last works together as a whole in No One Ever Really Dies, which you can download for free here.
This latest video was directed by William Bastian II of Pheonix is Burning who released this statement regarding the video on www.phoenixisburning.com:
“Phoenix is Burning along with Silver Medallion crafted this video in direct response to the glamorization of porn, politics, sex, greed and religion that our society and generation specifically seem to worship with no regard for repercussions. This video is meant to shine a spotlight on the reckless actions of a generation brought up in a superficial culture, lacking in conviction and a passion for substantial thought. In a world where Lindsay Lohan, Rush Limbaugh hatred, religious zealotry and greed are pushed to the forefront of our daily lives by the media, this is our push back on all of it. We use strong imagery as a way of getting our point across, offensive to some, we hope our audience understands this video represents a journey to substance, a cleansing of false idol, rejecting what has been pushed down our throats, and finding truth.”
The video is a little strange but stands out amongst the plethora of music videos released today. It features singer Oren J selling a female soul to a devil born of debauchery, and the ensuing impact on both of their mental states. It makes a bit more sense knowing that “Live Forever” is a remix of their song “Vampires” off their debut LP The Last of the Pop Stars. My favorite scene in the video is when it shows the atom bomb exploding, the visual of that accompanied by this track is really something else. Overwerk did a fantastic job producing this track.
Keep your eyes peeled for Silver Medallions next music video for their single “My Dream”, produced by Canadian beatmaker Wonka, scheduled for release at the end of April.
