Album Review: Bassnectar – Wildstyle EP

by on October 19, 2010

I’m pretty sure I don’t have to tell you all how long I’ve been waiting for this one. I have been tee-heeing and squirming like a 5 year old for a couple months in anticipation. Well I got it, did two backflips, and sat down to give it a listen…

First off, between the 7 tracks, don’t expect any continuity other than bassy deliciousness. What I’m saying is that there are a great variety of styles crammed into this EP. There are hard hitting, straight-up bangers like “Encore” and “Wildstyle Method”. But there are also some tracks that are influenced by rap and hip-hip, such as the remix of AmpLive’s “Hot Right Now” and “The 808 Track”. However, the chill wobbly tracks are my favorite. The two that I’m referring to are “Underwater” and “Falling”. As well, let’s not forget about “Fun With Synthesizers”, which is a whole ‘nother game in itself. Pretty cool track, with the term “track” being up for interpretation.

There are a great deal of featured artists on the album as well, including: 40 Love, Mighty High Coup, Paper Machete, and Tina Malia. My personal fav is Tina Malia. She breathes a crazy ethereal vibe into “Underwater” that is perfect.

Hmmm, my favorite drop you ask? Either 1:22 in “Underwater”, or “Encore” at :44. I’ll throw up my favs to stream, but you will have to head over to Bassnectar’s website to snag it (or stream the rest of the album). Don’t worry, its super cheap. Oh, and you can check out “Wildstyle Method”, the prerelease track, at our old post covering it.
