I have never heard of Mod Sun until today. I admit I must have been sleeping at the wheel because this shit knocks and I am sure the rest of his catalog does as well. This music video has everything you need: a dope track, lots of hot scantily clad women and a hippy looking dude that strangely resembles Chris Pontius of Jackass. This track was produced by Statik Selektah and is off Mod Sun’s The Hippy Hop EP. You can get this nice track on Mod Sun’s Bandcamp along with a couple free mixtapes.
For awhile there, my football team here at the University of Colorado was not doing too bad. We had a winning recording beating CSU, Hawaii and Georgia with only one loss against Berkeley (come on.. we lost that bad against Berkeley?). Since then, we have lost three straight games. Hopefully this track by CU’s wide receiver, Kendrick Celestine aka J_Mal, will motivate his teammates and us fans to rally around the team and win the rest of the season. I can see this track being played loud at Folsom Field during the games. It has even gotten into the hands of ESPN representatives & producers. Follow J_Mal and the rest of Swagger Status International at their Facebook fan page here.
Smokey Robotic dropped another track off their upcoming album. The track is titled “Most Beautiful” and it is little slower than the rest of their catalog. “Most Beautiful” is perfect for those moments with your favorite gal or guy. I am sure you will dig it just as much as I do. The track was produced by !llmind with additional synth work by Konrad. It was written & Performed by Seer & Father Dude. With Smokey Robotic, there is no genre. Just.. music.. Superfuture music to be exact.
This lil’ number is the talk of the town today it would seem. Maybe because it has none other than The Cure’s Robert Smith singing on it? It’s a nice remix of Crystal Castles’ original “Not in Love” which is actually a remix of a Platinum Blonde song. Yea, that’s right, a remix of a remix. Whoa. The original “Not in Love” was the fav for many off of the recent Crystal Castles (ll).
This baddie will be released on the A-side of a single feature to be released from Fiction Records on December 6th.
Mary J. Blige’s first artist and protégé Starshell just recently debuted her music video for her first single titled “Superluva”. The song will off her as-of-yet-untitled debut album. Expect the album to feature hitmakers such as will.i.am, Scott Storch, Jerry Wonda, Swizz Beats, Ne-Yo, Jeff Bhasker and Martin Kierszenbaum to be behind the scenes to make her the next superstar. This song in particular was produced by Fernando Garibay who has worked with Lady Gaga, U2, Britney Spears and many others. I foresee some killer electronic remixes of this song in the future. The video for the track was inspired by 80′s pop star, Cyndi Lauper, who created hits such as “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” and “Time After Time”. The song has potential but we will see if Starshell will become the next big pop star..
Kenton Dunson just leaked another track off his upcoming sophomore effort titled Creative Destruction. The album will be released around mid-November since some opportunities have come along for him including a pending publishing rearrangement and discussions of a possible label deal. The three tracks (“Lanes”, “Dope” and now this) that Kenton Dunson has released off Creative Destruction show the versatility of him as a musician. In “Man Down”, Kenton moves toward a more R&B and soulful direction with the song. I really dig it even though I don’t normally listen to much R&B. It is probably because the song also has a rock feel to it as well with the fast tempo drums and occasional guitar. I highly recommend checking this track out as with the rest of Kenton’s music and be sure to share with your friends!
Always love me some new Betatraxx. You probably do too. This one particularly caught my interest because “Gold Guns Girls” is one of my favorite tracks. Do I think it is better than the original? I think it can’t compete with the original because they are in different classes altogether. However, I am happy to see a new take on a song I love, so it’s a win-win haha. This song has recently become the fav of a lot of remixers out there. I would be interested to hear what versions you guys like most… Oh and for fair measure, I’ll include the original. I remember one time many many years ago and very very underaged, I was at some house party and “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley (Dangermouse + Cee-Lo) came on. In a drunken emotional outburst a friend yelled “This is the song of our generation!” or something like that, and I have never forgotten it. It’s not that I necessarily think that what he said was true, but either way I think that that song was something that everyone loved and it pulled us all together. “Fuck You” was pretty close to achieving the same status too.
I can only hope that Cee-Lo’s Lady Killer LP (which is to be released on Novemeber 9th) can deliver something of the same caliber. Cee-Lo has released a couple of singles in the last two weeks in anticipation of the LP. “Bright Lights, Bigger City” is definitely my favorite of the two. I am a whore for synth heavy tracks like this; it’s a total throwback. I shouldn’t say that “Old Fashioned” isn’t a throwback though, because it certainly is. But then again, most of C’s tracks sound like they could have been heard forty years ago. Either way, I love it! So get down on these tracks and get excited for Lady Killer! Silver Medallion just leaked their Four Loko ballad that was previously only available as a snippet. This song is for the many that have consumed Four Loko and not ended up in the hospital. If you haven’t tried Four Loko, I suggest you do so soon before the “blackout in a can” gets banned. The drink has not been getting good press lately as you can read here and here. While your drinking that fine beverage, why don’t you put this track on to start the night?
Joe Budden is arguably one of my favorite rappers (shove it haters) because of his lyricism and ability to connect with his listeners on an emotional level. There are not many rappers like him in my opinion. At one point, he was making club tracks such as “Pump It Up” and “Fire” when he was signed to Def Jam. Label issues forced him to begin his Mood Muzik mixtape series, which in my opinion has been a more authentic representation of Budden’s talent. This latest Mood Muzik release is the fourth edition to the series and is on par with the previous mixtapes. I would say this is better than most albums that are released today.. and it’s free. You do have the option to purchase a hard copy yourself (not to mention signed by Joe Budden himself) here if you would like. In related news, Joe budden is once again going to in the mainstream spotlight after news that his group Slaughterhouse will be signing to Shady Records. Below are my favorites from Joe Budden’s Mood Muzik 4.
This last track that I will feature was given the visual treatment in the form of a trailer for the mixtape. There were three trailers in total and they can all be viewed on Joe Budden’s YouTube channel. Apparently, Just Blaze wasn’t too happy that Joe Budden used his beat for the track. You can read all about it here.
