So, Deerhunter released a live version of the original “Helicopter” a couple of weeks ago. I never actually posted it up, but it has been up on my Soundcloud. I should probably tell you that I have been obsessed with it since it came out. I’ll throw it up at the end of the post.
Now, Diplo and Lunice hopped on the bad boy and made it into a whole ‘nother monster. They did a great job preserving what makes the original track so good, while adding their own touch that pushes it to a whole new level. Their touch includes a powerful yet comfortable new bassline, as well as some great new background ambience. Listen, download, and love.
Back in early July, Kenton Dunson let his fans and friends listen for a day to five unreleased beats that he produced. I checked them out and one track in particular really caught my ear. The track was titled “Can’t Stay” and at one point, Kenton tried pushing it to a major artist. Lucky for us, Kenton decided to keep it for his upcoming sophomore album Creative Destruction. He touched up the drums a bit, put down his vocals on the track and a new song by the title of “Lanes” was born. “Lanes” is in my opinion one of Kenton’s best songs he has created to date. If there is one song of his currently released that could take the internet by storm, I say this it. But who is to say that there isn’t another Kenton track waiting around the corner to take the crown. Just you wait. On Friday, Kenton will be releasing another track by the name of “Dope”. If it is anything like the title, well you know.. I am expecting something harder from Kenton on this track after he told me that “the beat just pisses off neighbors left and right!” Be on the look out for Kenton Dunson’s Creative Destruction tentatively set to release on 10.10.10. In the mean time, head over to Kenton Dunson’s website to stream his debut album The Kenton Dunson Progressions in its entirety.
I got a referral today from matamatics’ blog and realized that it’s been minute since I looked to see if he had produced anything new. Since the last time I checked, he has produced two sick remixes that lie on total opposites of the music spectrum. The first one is a remix of Mike Jones’ “Still Tippin’” with Slim Thug and Paul Wall. He gives the H-town hit single the dubstep treatment with lots of wobble and bass. I would probably take matamatics’ advice that “computer speaks won’t cut it for this one—iPod earbuds are a minimum requirement and a decent system with a sub is recommended for full appreciation.” The next song tones it down a notch with a calm remix of Local Natives’ “Sun Hands”. Enjoy.
If you remember, a little over a month ago I introduced you to the GoodFellaz with their music video for their single “Love Is On Line”. Well, I got another banger of theirs for you that they just released for free on their Soundcloud. The track is titled “If You Talk About Me” and is off the compilation album The Montreality Show that features the best local artists out of Montreal. I recommend checking the album out over at Bandcamp. The only downside to the compilation album? Some of the doper beats on the album are performed in Français and therefore I can’t understand it.
I haven’t listened to much Mickey Factz in the past, but I certainly will be in the future, because I am loving his style. I don’t listen to as much rap as I once did, all the main stream stuff has started to sound the same.
That where Mickey Factz comes in. There are a wide variety of styles that he drops his flow on over the course of this mixtape. There are some instrumental tracks like “Melodic Nightmares” (possibly my fav), and some great electronic themed tracks like “We Young,” as well as more conventional remixes like the “Light Up” remix. One thing is for sure, I guarentee you that you can find at least one track on this mixtape that will suit your style. I definitely found a lot more than one.
XXL is presenting this bad boy so you’ll have to head over yonder to grab it, I’ll include a link at the end of this post. Mickey Factz is a real up and comer these days. You’ll here the likes of B.o.B, Big K.R.I.T., Fat Joe, Bun B, and Chester French on this one. DJ Enuff hosts the tape, and oh boy will you hear him talk a lot; the one downside to this mixtape. Factz’ debut album The Achievement will drop early next year.
Is it me or is the released version of “Runaway” a little.. umm.. plain? I like this Noise Vocal Sample Edit of it much more, which copies the samples used in Kanye’s VMA performance to create a “studio version” of what was performed. It goes great with the VMA footage as you can see by DJ Reel’s video edit.
Here is another version of “Runaway” dubbed the mixshow version. It is what will be played on the radio across the country. It is almost a full minute shorter, clean and has added sound effects at the end of the song. I like the ending better in this version than the original.
Wow. Joe Budden, Talib Kweli & Sean Price all on one track. All three of them were one of my favorite artists at one point in my life. Doc Ish knows how to line up a track. Apparently, the track was meant to feature Jay Electronica as well but it never materialized unfortunately. This will be featured on Doc Ish’s debut album Doc Ish Presents: The First Treatment. Just because it is his debut album, Doc Ish isn’t new to the game. He already has a Grammy for producing Eminem’s “We Made You”. This is only for stream, so if you like it be sure to purchase it!
Pance Party & Valerna teamed up together to produce this short EP titled The Robobot. Although it is hard to really call this an EP when it is only two tracks, I will let it slide because of how epic they are. “Overture: The Last Robobot” is one of the sickest electronic song I have heard all year. “Schaerzo” is pretty cool as well, although I don’t like it as much as “Overture: The Last Robobot”. If you want to learn more about Pance Party or Valerna visit their MySpaces here and here, respectively.
Pance Party also released this dope remix of The Dance Party’s “Sash Don’t Sleep” a couple weeks ago, which I decided to add to this post as a bonus. This is definitely a jam you should be playing at your next house party.
Stumbled upon this lil’ banger. Couldn’t dig up much on Clouds though…not even a wee myspace page. Thanks to Fire for giving me a link to these guys’ Myspace. Read more about them in his comment below.
Be warned, this one is heavy as f***. I’m reaaaaally diggin the bass on this one, surprise. The drop’s at about 1:00. It’s an interesting one, that’s for sure.
Man I’m getting worse and worse at getting these Good Fridays tracks up on…Fridays. Here’s the new one anyways. I think it’s pretty cool, not as dope as last week’s however. I am happy to see Pusha T back on the track no doubt. He killed it in “Runaway” and now I’m in love. So, head on over to Kanye’s blog to grab this number for free.
