Wiz Khalifa has just unleashed his first single since being signed to Rostrum/Atlantic. The single is titled “Black And Yellow” and was produced by Stargate. He is repping his hometown of Pittsburgh ala the black and yellow part of the song if you didn’t get it. I was almost committed to not posting anymore tonight…until I heard this track. It’s a banger as expected from Wiz and is making me want to hear his upcoming album even more.
We already know Doctor Rosen Rosen is way underrated as a producer and has made some of the illest remixes these past few years. I never realized how dope he can be with his own vocals on the track. Need an example? Just listen to the song “Eat, Pray, Fu*k”. The song is titled after Elizabeth Gilbert’s book Eat, Pray, Love, which was recently brought to the big screen. I am huge fan of the type of music Doctor Rosen Rosen produces. He could probably get me to listen to Ke$ha (first terrible singer I could think of) after remixing one of her tracks. Combining his own production talents with his singing talents, you can really see hear how truly talented he is as a musician. Doctor, I think we need a refill of original music from you.
“3 years ago I put out this song and now Julia Robert’s won’t return my phone calls.
What the fu*k?” – Doctor Rosen Rosen
Every once in a great while one comes across a mashup that does something so cool and new that it must be posted. Rapping to “Mad World” sounds pretty cool in my book. Not to mention that Donnie Darko is my favorite movie of all time. I haven’t heard a mash-up this fresh since DJ Fergie Ferg’s Devotchka & Cudi/Snoop Mash. If Brenton Duvall keeps this up he’ll be hot in no time.
Anyways, this is a legit track. It compliments both songs and should be part of your library immediately.
Long time no post huh? Sorry folks, I have been mega busy starting an internship and getting bitch slapped with coursework. Matt & Kim is the best group to come back to if you ask me though. This is the first bit of sunshine I’ve heard from them since their awesome Grand LP which made my day for oh… about a month? Here’s to the hopeful album announcement that is soon to come!
I believe all babies should have mustaches and I have to give credit to Riva Starr and his fantastic music video of his “I Was Drunk” for this idea. “I Was Drunk” is the smash single off Riva Starr’s album If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade (the video already has over 300,000 views!), which is available for purchase now. The song is real dope although I am not sure what to call it… gypsy house maybe? Anyways, apparently my computer found out about Riva Starr before I did as I had a remix by him of Usher’s “OMG”, which is a pretty dope track that has a totally different vibe than the original. If you are interested in hearing Riva Starr’s album If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade I have posted a minimix of it below. Also, if you are in the NYC area, be sure to check out Riva Starr at Cielo September 16th. Information on the show can be found below as well.

I learned a few things today as expected when you go to college but there was one thing I was really excited to learn. That something was that Silver Medallion already has an album out titled The Last of the Popstars. What…the…f**k…how did I not know about this? SMH. I quickly ordered it on Amazon and I am awaiting my copy (and can’t wait to hear it!). I highly suggest you pick up a copy as well since Silver Medallion is a great group who I have a feeling will be big in the future. Buy it on iTunes or Amazon. Silver Medallion also unleashed a new remix of their single “Slave” by House of Light. One of the best remixes of the track I have heard so far. Check it out.
This song simply has to be posted for exactly how impressed I am that this actually came out, and so quickly! Just a week or two ago whispers started going around about this collaboration. Well, here it is believe it or not. I’ll let you form your own opinion (please let me hear it). I do have to say I am diggin the Wu-Tang backdrop. Bieber sounds like a young Mikey J if you ask me…. sorry for the tags too, we’ll have tagless shortly.
Well, I am reeeeeeally late on posting this Lupe track considering there is now five emails in my inbox about this song. It is one of the best Lupe Fiasco songs I have heard in a while. Well, Lupe always makes good music, so it’s the best since his last album. I also got sent this chill collabo between up and comer Diggy and Lupe Fiasco and Pharrell. Enjoy.
Protohype just released a sick dubstep remix of Three Six Mafia’s classic track “Late Night Tip”. The electronic duo Protohype linked up together only last year but have a combined 12 years of experience in production, which you can tell from this remix and also from there many other tracks. One of my favorite tracks of theirs is “Memoirs”, which I included in this post and is a banger and a half. I also included their track “I Choose You” that is a dubstep remix of the Pokemon theme song. I pretty much just added that track because I think its funny.. and not to mention dope as well. If you like what you hear, listen to more of their music on their Soundcloud.
In the fall of 2009, Sean Farrell and Max Pote linked up to produce their first track together, which quickly lead to over an albums worth of songs in two weeks. Their talent is not individual. Their music is a culmination of edgy electronic sounds mixed with the darker side of hip hop. With a combined 12 years of production behind them, Max and Sean have a promising future in the music industry. Two different personalities from polar-opposite backgrounds, with two different lifestyles. What makes them unique is their uncontrollable infatuation with noise. Music is not only their passion; it is their way of life.
After releasing their first album, The Protohype, they switched up their sound and moved their production directly into a new form of Dub Step, which they refer to as Dub Hop. Protohype recently dropped their second album, Filthy; which — as promised — delivered trunk rattling bass mashed up with dirty vocals and head nodding drums.
Protohype is finishing up their third album, Genre Genocide which will showcase Protohype’s versatile ability to make all genre’s of electronic music.
The Wilderness Downtown is an interactive film by Chris Milk that features Arcade Fire’ song “We Used To Wait”. The video utilizes HTML5 to access Google maps’ satellite and streetview images to personalize the video for each person’s childhood home. Pretty sweet idea, huh? The only catch is that the video is best played using Google Chrome (a great browser that you should have anyway since it’s not a memory hog like Firefox). It doesn’t play using Firefox but it should work using Safari. I highly recommend checking this video out because it is incredible. You will probably get a pretty powerful emotional experience while at the same time in awe of how cool the visuals are. Go now and revisit your childhood at TheWildernessDowntown.com.
